    *laughs* Oh, that’s awesome! I got yelled at a couple of times for pointing out that Israel isn’t the same as the American north-west when I asked the same question, cool that there’s actually an answer to be found.

      I had long conversations with a friend who breeds California Reds and my BIL who is an ag-sci HS teacher in south Texas. I learned a LOT about sheep breeds and breeding. For example, sub tropical and tropical breeds retain their usual time for entering estrus, even when they’re in a northern climate.

        That explains why my great-grandfather’s flocks were the same sort that’s still around that area, while the type of cows can vary wildly– hard to mix new blood in when they lamb at different times, total headache.
