Bedroom Blessings For Recalcitrant Toddlers

GeekBaby has been stalling bedtime lately by expressing various fears of his bedroom. So we’ve added a nightly bedroom blessing to the routine. Here’s how it goes:

+ O Lord, bless this room and all who sleep within.
Protect us from [fear] and [fear] and [fear].
Banish these and all other nightly fears,
That we may sleep in peace. Amen.

Specific fears are filled in the brackets based on specific pre-bed chatter and evasion attempts. Tonight’s were monsters, spiders, and bugs.

At this point, I sprinkle the room copiously with holy water, making sure to get any points of special interest, like the closet (for monsters), and also getting my own little monster in the process. He needs it!

Right now this happens before Compline, but I’m thinking maybe it should be moved to afterwards. Ah well, we’re still figuring all this out after all.

Another good bedroom monster prayer is this old one, which I Iove:

From ghoulies, and ghosties,
And long legged beasties,
And things that go bump in the night
Good Lord deliver us!

This is a really good idea. Beadboy2 is often afraid that the bad guys/monsters/whatever will get him. Thanks!
