The Most Depressing And Yet Most Hopeful Conversation I’ve Ever Had

So I was outside with GeekBaby, he was playing with the little girl next door. I was supervising and reading a book on my iPod.

Little girl next door notices I have my iPod out, and comes running over from where the two of them are drawing with sidewalk chalk to ask if she can play games. I told her, “I’m sorry, sweetie, but I’m reading a book right now.”

“Why would you READ a BOOK?” Her tone was both astonished and a little disgusted.

“Well, I like reading books.”

And from over by the chalk, my child looks up, yells “I READING!” and comes hurtling over like you just offered him candy to look for the book and take it from me.
